Variety performers in the UK complaining of TV stars encroaching on their patch should count themselves lucky. True, comedian Alexander Armstrong, Mad Men star Bryan Batt and astrologer Russell Grant are only recent entrants to cabaret over here but the story in the US is something else entirely.

Last weekend, we saw Snoop Dogg launch a Sin City speakeasy night while in the Big Apple, the queue for a spot on the stage of songbook joint 54 Below starts behind the likes of The Princess Bride and Homeland‘s Mandy Patinkin, The Newsroom‘s Jeff Daniels and now Glee star Jane Lynch.

On Tuesday, Lynch was a guest on the Chelsea Lately promofest chatshow where she spoke about her latest venture. “It’s very exciting. It’s very new to me. I’m doing a show at a cabaret called 54 Below for four nights,” Lynch told host Chelsea Handler. “I’m kind of auditioning myself to see if I’m any good at this because I’ve always fancied myself a cabaret performer and we’re just going to have to see about that.” Although the recently-divorced Lynch describes herself as “an OK singer”, you can judge for yourself over here.

Lynch will be belting them out at 54 Below between 18-21 June. There is a $75-$85 cover charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum. For more information and tickets, visit 54Below.com.
