If your bosom swells with patriotic pride in anticipation for the London Olympic Games…go blow a couple of grand on their tickets. Proud bosoms of another kind will be the order of the day when the World Burlesque Games kick in next month.
Honouring the Olympic spirit with all the irreverence the genre can muster, Chaz Royal’s London Burlesque Week may have changed its name for 2012, but promises the same high-calibre performances of burlesque and cabaret that audiences have enjoyed in the previous five editions of the festival.

As usual, the event will feature a pool of bump-and-grinding talent from around the world, alternating London and UK favourites like Dinah Might and Kiki Kaboom with performers from France, Italy, India, Australia and other faraway lands. In true competitive spirit, every night will become a tournament in a different category of burlesque and variety, with the winners featured in the closing ceremonies. In addition to the many “crowns”, another innovation is the London Burlesque Week Newcomer’s Competition: already an established and influential institution of the British burlesque circuit, the evening will be divided for the first time between local and visiting contestants.
Get ready for a real burlesque marathon as the 2012 World Burlesque Games take over some of the most traditional venues of London’s variety scene with more than 90 different acts, but don’t leave your tickets for the last minute: as with the Olympic games, events are in high demand, with the closing ceremonies already sold out.
