Ariadne the Greek WAG: a wam-bam combination of effortless comedy skills and a dazzling smile

On the third Thursday of every month, Freedom Bar in Soho is becoming the home of new event The Soho Cabaret. Hosted by Ariadne The Greek WAG, it promises a night of comedy, cabaret, circus and music. One thing is true: it certainly delivers variety.

Set in the lower floor of this small yet stylish Soho establishment, the evening presents acts from the London and international cabaret circuit. The mirrored walls and outrageously glitter-balled ceiling help to open up the space and turn what could be quite a stuffy club area into a light-filled performance space.

Ariadne hosts with a wam-bam combination of effortless comedy skills and a dazzling smile. She forms a genuine connection with the audience through her friendly, naughty, sexy and intoxicating energy. With a mix of filthy puns, outright rudeness and jokes concerning current events, hilarity ensues whenever she appears. A particular highlight is her very funny performance of A Woman Scorned.

The show comes replete with variety entertainment. Headliner Christian Lee wows the crowd with some simple yet excellently executed magic. With some jokes slipped in for good measure, he entertains and baffles the audience with charm and a sweet simple demeanour.

The show also came complete with the musical and comic styling’s of Reuben Kaye, some impressive and extremely bendy sets from handbalancer and acrobat Jonathan Finch and some sleek, sweet, sexy burlesque from the adorable Ruby Darling. Chris Fitchew brings tacky comedy to the table, although his impression of Dragon Den’s Hilary Devey rescues his set. Having said that, the structure of the night feels a little too segmented with two long breaks between acts that disrupt the flow of the evening.

In terms of value for money, this evening is a winner. For a bar where drinks do not come cheap outside happy hour, this combo ticket is a steal. Along with a reasonably priced ticket to the show comes a complimentary cocktail and entry to the Freedom club until 3am.

For a ticket bought on the door at £12, the combination of all these elements makes for a complete night out that offers an enticing package at a reasonable price.
