No season of vaudeville would be complete without a little titillation, and Priceless London Wonderground is no exception. Production company House of Burlesque will present their homonymous showcase at the festival, filling up the spiegeltent at the South Bank Centre with live burlesque and cabaret entertainment for a limited run of three monthly dates.

House of Burlesque has produced acclaimed shows in London and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including Circus Burlesque and touring revue Shipwrecked. As the director of House of Burlesque, Miss Tempest Rose will preside over the function, joined by burlesque dancers like Audacity Chutzpah, Betsy Rose and Delores Deluxe. Cabaret acts like aerialist Jo Foley, singing boylesquer Dave the Bear and comic acrobat Abi Collins complement the bill.

House of Burlesque has produced successful showcases like Edinburgh hit Circus Burlesque

Unlike the more traditional spaces that have welcomed Rose and her crew, like the Assembly venues in Edinburgh and Madame Jojo’s, the spiegeltent stage will see performers surrounded by the crowd during the new showcase.

“Performing burlesque in the round is a challenge: there’s nowhere to hide,” says Tempest Rose. “You need to find new ways of delaying the reveal as the audience is all around you, but the experience is amazing. You are surrounded by their energy, and everywhere you look there are faces to communicate with.”

House of Burlesque fans can also expect a glimpse of The Remix, a revamped version of the company’s newest show, inspired by hip hop and pop music, still under development.

House of Burlesque takes over the Priceless London Wonderground spiegeltent at the South Bank Centre on May 23rd, June 27th and July 25th. See www.houseofburlesque.co.uk for tickets and other details.
