Britney Spears has rarely been out of the limelight since she was knee-high to a grown man in a Mickey Mouse outfit. Ok, maybe a little taller. Her tracks Oops!…I Did It Again and …Baby One More Time soundtracked the Noughties and no doubt quite a few teenage conceptions. She’s a survivor, though, and she’s rich enough now to have two of everything including two kids and two ex-husbands.
She has inspired Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Miley Cyrus and continues to fill stadiums and Sunday supplements with her music and personal woes. Loungelovers can now sit back and enjoy her greatest hits in the comfort of a more intimate environment, thanks to Britney Spears: The Cabaret.
Under the direction of award-winning writer and director Dean Bryant with musical direction by Matthew Frank, Australian actor Christie Whelan-Browne takes on the princess of pop in both persona and repertoire. Jazzed-up covers of the Britney classics like Circus, Sometimes, Piece of Me and Toxic feature alongside satirical send-ups of the American singer’s rollercoaster life.
The show has only seen action down under but we have our fingers crossed that it will someday make its way to London. In the meantime, here’s a clip from the show to enjoy.
